We "can" do something to make a more greener conscience future. All it takes is an actual dose of rational thinking and common sense. Not jumping into brash, hasty crackpot solutions just because the idea might sound relevant to the situation.
I don't know how to Illustrate it on a Good and Awful list blog, but I might have to do something different with this post in particular. Instead of using one example for both good and awful, I will make two separate lists about green issues. One list that has good ideas and reasons, and another list that has bad ideas and reasons.
LIST OF GOOD GREEN IDEAS.
1. Human Health And Fitness.
Having more vegetables in your diet is not really an animal killing issue or a religious issue or even an environmental issue. It's more of a health issue at most. I hate to be a cliche, but the U.S is known to have high obesity rates as well as heart attack rates. Our modern society gives too much of the same thing in our dietary menu (which are fat based foods). Most people do have trouble with vegetables and with good reason too. Most green products that has been sold have lost most flavor and other vitamins due to pesticide products to keep insects away from the plants. Some greens are sold organically, but based on economic issues, these are usually pricey.
It's a healthy start for both the body and mind if you are planing to garden some of your own food. It's a great way to learn and to eat. I'm not saying you should avoid the grocery store to buy veggies completely. I'm just saying putting both feet on the boarder will help you greatly. Having more cookbooks about vegetables and experimenting with herbs and greens will open a world of more creative possibilities for restoring physical energy and health.

I'm also not saying to avoid meat completely. Most of our ancient ancestors survived when they discovered edible plants as well as learning how to survived through meat. I'm just saying that most red meats even white meats alone don't provide a fully healthy serving. Seafood on the other hand gives off natural fat oils for the blood like omega 3s and certain minerals. Meats are good sparingly, but based on the numbers of heart attacks and other types of dietary diseases in the U.S, we should start paying attention for what crisp greens have to offer us. Milks, cheeses are o.k. Just be sure that you don't overdo dairy products for the sake of preventing low energy and fat clots.
2. More Helpful Products Around The House.
Electrical appliances that use less energy does help preventing future power outages and pricey SMUD bills. Again, this is not entirely based on the global environment, but it does help the urban environment save money and be able to be (somewhat) economically sustainable as a result. Though Solar energy is not fully capable and it's still has ways away in becoming more advance. However, it can be a vital role in air conditioning during the summer without busting electric bills and the house's energy.

Most products that are actually green conscience must be versatile to the function of modern life, especially if it solves wasting problems. A great example to this would be Scotch Brite's recent product called "Greener Clean". It is made out of recycled fibers that not only scrubs and dries, but it is dish washer friendly to sterilize and remove bacteria where as you can't do that with normal scrubs. Just by using that for scrubbing and a cloth towel for drying would greatly diminish the amount of paper towels thrown away every year.

Even though doing this doesn't solve huge environmental issues completely, it does however help make wiser choices in preventing waisted resources.
3. Social Responsibility
This one is so obvious that even a child can understand. What I mean by Social Responsibility is be responsible on how you handle, carry and throw away waist. Not throw away stuff on the ground and hope some worker would take care of your laziness. Stuff being thrown willie nilly is being irresponsible for what happens to animals and the ecosystem. Throw away your stuff, even if you have to carry it by long distance to go to a garbage or recycling ben. Don't be a lazy deadbeat because this "does" effect the environment globally.

4. Technology And Problem Solving
Technological advancements has been a huge key role in environmental problems globally. Some technologies have harmed both ourselves and nature. But it is through our continuous learning throughout the ages we are able to make better technological solutions for ourselves and our surroundings.

In the middle ages of Europe, the sewage system was primitive and poor which obviously gave rise to fatal diseases. Thanks to the rise in modern water waste system in the U.S, we are less exposed to deadly bacteria. Now through scientific discoveries and advance engineering in the 21st century, we are now solving advance problems of waste water in the ocean and other eco-based environments. Scientists have now developed advance filtering systems that sifts the water right down to it's molecular properties. Some other advancements can be simple for the sake of preventing minor problems. Example: Adding small hoses in toilets to wash fecal mildew off the bottoms so that less toilet paper could end up plugging pipes and sewers.
LIST OF BAD GREEN IDEAS
1. Completely Refraining From Resources.
Again. Completely refraining from toilet paper and keeping your butt nice, smelly and crusty doesn't solve the tree problems in the rain-forests. And yet some of these Green fundamentalists go further than that. Some of them not only tell you to go completely vegan (no meat, milk or wheat), but they also tell you to eat as less as possible. Even though hindu ascetics do just that, it doesn't change the fact that they are in unhealthy conditions. Neither does it solve issues with the environment. It's just a vindictive misanthropic attitude towards the well being of others.

2. Using Something Just Because It Seems Relevant To The Environment.
Many Environmentalists would promote something regardless what it really is. For example: The florescent light bulb uses less electricity. For this reason only, many people exaggerate it's usefulness. Some states in the U.S are now passing laws to use florescent light bulbs only. Besides the fact that this seems authoritarian, the biggest mistake here is the chemical properties of the florescent light bulb which makes it impossible to be recycled. One of the main properties of the florescent bulb is mercury in high contents (which is very deadly). Since this can't be recycled, a warn out florescent bulb is thrown away with leaks of high mercury. Green solutions are about safe, healthy, natural choices. Not stupid ones. Most may argue that as long as you dispose them safely in hazardous waste facilities, it will be alright..... And this is coming from people who distrust companies that use toxic substances and try to promote less toxic alternatives such as solar and wind energy? Can you say retarded?

3. Endorsing Something For Minor Green Reasons.
Even if a car still uses fossil fuel, any miner changes such as less car exhaust or more miles per gallon, plenty of uneducated green fundies would say any form of non logic to endorse it. Example: Someone may say "Using one florescent light bulb would take ten gas guzzling cars out of the streets". Or "Buying one organic product will diminish pollution". One time I was given a free bag from some people and the bag had irrelevant B.S written all over it. Part of the bag literally stated "Going vegan helps stop 80% of global warming".... This is just like a christian church saying "The hurricanes were a result of homosexual communities".

Connecting meteorology with bronze age morality is superstitiously arrogant and childish. Connecting your diet with the issues of companies using hazardous chemical exhaust is flat out retarded. The Term Global Warming has been so distorted, you don't know if the hot air is coming from the sun or from Al Gores mouth. I'm not saying there is not an issue with the Ozone. I'm just saying that trying to handle the actual issues with the environment has been blown out of proportion.
4. Gently Messing With Mother Nature For The Sake Of Mother Nature.
A company discovered that most of the world's oceans is directly or indirectly dependent on one-celled plants called phytoplankton. These plants, which live at the ocean surface, feed on ocean nutrients to survive. They also discovered that certain gases and minerals are nutrients for these organisms. One of these minerals that diminishes carbon dioxide is iron. So the theory goes by dumping Iron to these organisms in the ocean, they would populate and blossom. In turn, these phytoplankton populations would help fight global warming by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere via increased photosynthesis.

Here's the issue. Some of this carbon sinks to the deep ocean along with other nutrients as phytoplankton die. So they hypothesize that constant increased of phytoplankton would isolate additional carbon in the deep ocean for hundreds or thousands of years. But what happens after those thousands of years after those phytoplankton die? Some normal carbon dioxides that have naturally been sucked resurfaces with minerals and forms of algae. It's also been studied that some minerals dumped into the ocean creates harmful algal blooms (HAB). Species that respond most strongly to this varies by location and other factors could include species that cause red tides and other toxic phenomena. It is also a known fact that population of phytoplankton are not universally gentle with the oceans environment.

When these group have been asked if they worry about what would happen to the ocean after thousands of years? They simply brushed it off by responding that it works now and we should not be bothered by it. It's important to point out that being concerned with the environment is being concerned with the future. Can you say Hypocrites?
5. Green Tyranny.
Some politicians now are trying to enforce green laws in some states including California. While I understand of making better Green choices, I do not believe that it is any of their business to use force in these matters. It is completely an individual affair in taking care of his parks, beaches and his community. The only way that government can be involved is giving subsidy for environmentally better technologies. Or at least state subsidy for installing better eco-technologies in homes (at most).
