Channel Programming: Solutions For Constant Crap

I didn't like my last post since it involves stuff I don't usually talk about and would not like to talk about. Mainly because I cannot find a way to explain myself without either looking like a green fundamentalist or an Intolerant, uneducated right winged idiot. So, I was trying to think about my next subject. I now have one and I better write it down before I forget. That's why I'm typing this around four in the morning.

It is less serious than the last post but never the less important. To me, personally, it has been a serious issue that is starting to bug the living hell out of me as well as other people like me. Too long, most of us have been frustrated after coming home after a hard day only to put up with more crap from the media. Of course, what I'm talking about is the very thing all of us say (one way or another). "500 or so channels and still nothing on!". We have said this so often that it has become a real modern day riddle. How can there be nothing on when you have over thousands of shows at your disposal?

This post not only answers just that, but it also has some suggestions to solve this hopefully in the near future. I did mention that I would have some posts that would only talk about either Good stuff or Awful issues. It might be hard for some of you who liked seeing the balance of contrasts like my earlier posts, but some issues need to have their own post to be thoroughly explained.

In this post, I will be listing the issues of modern day programing as well as listing some suggestions.

WHY THERE'S NOTHING ON TV.

1. Companies Are Forcing The Same Things In All Channels.
There are very good reasons why television was made to have more than one channel. Would you want to have your child watch an channel with a chaotic schedule where "Peter Rabbit And Friends" is followed by "The Hardcore Dominatrix Hour"? Of course Not! Even though that was an extreme and exaggerated example, this is the same situation that the frustrated viewers are putting up with. Companies try to put so much stuff into one channel that they're missing the point about the purpose of channel varieties. As a result of companies imitating the same ideas from other companies, the channels are now showing the same thing.

One thing I've been noticing is this wave of reality shows over flooding every time slot of every channel. From back stabbing dirty laundry to contestants being under pressured and being humiliated. Even the cooking channel has unnecessary reality shows which is obviously an indication of four components.

1. Companies commonly think when a show works, they continue with the fade persistently until it's worn out (which explains the explosion of reality shows after the "Survivor" Craze). 2. People are getting bored and are now wanting something extreme. Which companies are supplying more shock valued shows as a result. 3. Other people loose interest in a channel because of the poor tasting shock valued shows. So Companies still use and experiment the same fade in different ways as the answer to this (from example 1).

Green Choices: What Works, What Doesn't

Obviously, we do have unhealthier lives because of our bad decisions with energy and our natural environment. However, there's a rational way to do it as well as a completely feeble (stupid) way to do it. I'm all for healthier choices for my fellow humans and my fellow animals. But I highly doubt that not using toilet paper at all would stop the destruction of trees in the rain-forests given the fact that most toilet paper companies have U.S farm grown trees particularly for tissue products. Not to mention the other fact that the trees cut down in the rain-forests are usually by illegal activities.

We "can" do something to make a more greener conscience future. All it takes is an actual dose of rational thinking and common sense. Not jumping into brash, hasty crackpot solutions just because the idea might sound relevant to the situation.

I don't know how to Illustrate it on a Good and Awful list blog, but I might have to do something different with this post in particular. Instead of using one example for both good and awful, I will make two separate lists about green issues. One list that has good ideas and reasons, and another list that has bad ideas and reasons.

LIST OF GOOD GREEN IDEAS.

1. Human Health And Fitness.
Having more vegetables in your diet is not really an animal killing issue or a religious issue or even an environmental issue. It's more of a health issue at most. I hate to be a cliche, but the U.S is known to have high obesity rates as well as heart attack rates. Our modern society gives too much of the same thing in our dietary menu (which are fat based foods). Most people do have trouble with vegetables and with good reason too. Most green products that has been sold have lost most flavor and other vitamins due to pesticide products to keep insects away from the plants. Some greens are sold organically, but based on economic issues, these are usually pricey.

It's a healthy start for both the body and mind if you are planing to garden some of your own food. It's a great way to learn and to eat. I'm not saying you should avoid the grocery store to buy veggies completely. I'm just saying putting both feet on the boarder will help you greatly. Having more cookbooks about vegetables and experimenting with herbs and greens will open a world of more creative possibilities for restoring physical energy and health.

I'm also not saying to avoid meat completely. Most of our ancient ancestors survived when they discovered edible plants as well as learning how to survived through meat. I'm just saying that most red meats even white meats alone don't provide a fully healthy serving. Seafood on the other hand gives off natural fat oils for the blood like omega 3s and certain minerals. Meats are good sparingly, but based on the numbers of heart attacks and other types of dietary diseases in the U.S, we should start paying attention for what crisp greens have to offer us. Milks, cheeses are o.k. Just be sure that you don't overdo dairy products for the sake of preventing low energy and fat clots.

2. More Helpful Products Around The House.
Electrical appliances that use less energy does help preventing future power outages and pricey SMUD bills. Again, this is not entirely based on the global environment, but it does help the urban environment save money and be able to be (somewhat) economically sustainable as a result. Though Solar energy is not fully capable and it's still has ways away in becoming more advance. However, it can be a vital role in air conditioning during the summer without busting electric bills and the house's energy.

Most products that are actually green conscience must be versatile to the function of modern life, especially if it solves wasting problems. A great example to this would be Scotch Brite's recent product called "Greener Clean". It is made out of recycled fibers that not only scrubs and dries, but it is dish washer friendly to sterilize and remove bacteria where as you can't do that with normal scrubs. Just by using that for scrubbing and a cloth towel for drying would greatly diminish the amount of paper towels thrown away every year.

Even though doing this doesn't solve huge environmental issues completely, it does however help make wiser choices in preventing waisted resources.

3. Social Responsibility
This one is so obvious that even a child can understand. What I mean by Social Responsibility is be responsible on how you handle, carry and throw away waist. Not throw away stuff on the ground and hope some worker would take care of your laziness. Stuff being thrown willie nilly is being irresponsible for what happens to animals and the ecosystem. Throw away your stuff, even if you have to carry it by long distance to go to a garbage or recycling ben. Don't be a lazy deadbeat because this "does" effect the environment globally.

4. Technology And Problem Solving
Technological advancements has been a huge key role in environmental problems globally. Some technologies have harmed both ourselves and nature. But it is through our continuous learning throughout the ages we are able to make better technological solutions for ourselves and our surroundings.

In the middle ages of Europe, the sewage system was primitive and poor which obviously gave rise to fatal diseases. Thanks to the rise in modern water waste system in the U.S, we are less exposed to deadly bacteria. Now through scientific discoveries and advance engineering in the 21st century, we are now solving advance problems of waste water in the ocean and other eco-based environments. Scientists have now developed advance filtering systems that sifts the water right down to it's molecular properties. Some other advancements can be simple for the sake of preventing minor problems. Example: Adding small hoses in toilets to wash fecal mildew off the bottoms so that less toilet paper could end up plugging pipes and sewers.

LIST OF BAD GREEN IDEAS

1. Completely Refraining From Resources.
Again. Completely refraining from toilet paper and keeping your butt nice, smelly and crusty doesn't solve the tree problems in the rain-forests. And yet some of these Green fundamentalists go further than that. Some of them not only tell you to go completely vegan (no meat, milk or wheat), but they also tell you to eat as less as possible. Even though hindu ascetics do just that, it doesn't change the fact that they are in unhealthy conditions. Neither does it solve issues with the environment. It's just a vindictive misanthropic attitude towards the well being of others.

2. Using Something Just Because It Seems Relevant To The Environment.
Many Environmentalists would promote something regardless what it really is. For example: The florescent light bulb uses less electricity. For this reason only, many people exaggerate it's usefulness. Some states in the U.S are now passing laws to use florescent light bulbs only. Besides the fact that this seems authoritarian, the biggest mistake here is the chemical properties of the florescent light bulb which makes it impossible to be recycled. One of the main properties of the florescent bulb is mercury in high contents (which is very deadly). Since this can't be recycled, a warn out florescent bulb is thrown away with leaks of high mercury. Green solutions are about safe, healthy, natural choices. Not stupid ones. Most may argue that as long as you dispose them safely in hazardous waste facilities, it will be alright..... And this is coming from people who distrust companies that use toxic substances and try to promote less toxic alternatives such as solar and wind energy? Can you say retarded?

3. Endorsing Something For Minor Green Reasons.
Even if a car still uses fossil fuel, any miner changes such as less car exhaust or more miles per gallon, plenty of uneducated green fundies would say any form of non logic to endorse it. Example: Someone may say "Using one florescent light bulb would take ten gas guzzling cars out of the streets". Or "Buying one organic product will diminish pollution". One time I was given a free bag from some people and the bag had irrelevant B.S written all over it. Part of the bag literally stated "Going vegan helps stop 80% of global warming".... This is just like a christian church saying "The hurricanes were a result of homosexual communities".

Connecting meteorology with bronze age morality is superstitiously arrogant and childish. Connecting your diet with the issues of companies using hazardous chemical exhaust is flat out retarded. The Term Global Warming has been so distorted, you don't know if the hot air is coming from the sun or from Al Gores mouth. I'm not saying there is not an issue with the Ozone. I'm just saying that trying to handle the actual issues with the environment has been blown out of proportion.

4. Gently Messing With Mother Nature For The Sake Of Mother Nature.
A company discovered that most of the world's oceans is directly or indirectly dependent on one-celled plants called phytoplankton. These plants, which live at the ocean surface, feed on ocean nutrients to survive. They also discovered that certain gases and minerals are nutrients for these organisms. One of these minerals that diminishes carbon dioxide is iron. So the theory goes by dumping Iron to these organisms in the ocean, they would populate and blossom. In turn, these phytoplankton populations would help fight global warming by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere via increased photosynthesis.

Here's the issue. Some of this carbon sinks to the deep ocean along with other nutrients as phytoplankton die. So they hypothesize that constant increased of phytoplankton would isolate additional carbon in the deep ocean for hundreds or thousands of years. But what happens after those thousands of years after those phytoplankton die? Some normal carbon dioxides that have naturally been sucked resurfaces with minerals and forms of algae. It's also been studied that some minerals dumped into the ocean creates harmful algal blooms (HAB). Species that respond most strongly to this varies by location and other factors could include species that cause red tides and other toxic phenomena. It is also a known fact that population of phytoplankton are not universally gentle with the oceans environment.

When these group have been asked if they worry about what would happen to the ocean after thousands of years? They simply brushed it off by responding that it works now and we should not be bothered by it. It's important to point out that being concerned with the environment is being concerned with the future. Can you say Hypocrites?

5. Green Tyranny.
Some politicians now are trying to enforce green laws in some states including California. While I understand of making better Green choices, I do not believe that it is any of their business to use force in these matters. It is completely an individual affair in taking care of his parks, beaches and his community. The only way that government can be involved is giving subsidy for environmentally better technologies. Or at least state subsidy for installing better eco-technologies in homes (at most).

Fast Food Eats: What Will Satisfy Your Munchies

Before I continue, I want to make something very clear. I'm not saying that you should always go to a fast food place just because it "IS" a terrific place. There is a reason why it's called "Fast" Food. When you are on a very long trip and you start to get really hungry with no signs of other food stores or restaurants in miles and you need some basic fats to store some energy, you stop by a place that will supply the basic fats as a quick way to have something. Hence the name fast food. I'm also not saying that you should refrain from going to fast food places. All you need to do is be responsible with it through moderation. That's all I want to say about that.

Anyways, It's not really my position to dictate on what IS good food and what isn't since it's a minor thing. People have different tastes in certain flavors or certain foods and there's no right or wrong answer to that. However, we all do know what we can determine as a good place to eat and a bad place to eat. Example: If a place stores up to date fresh food, then it's a good place to eat. If a place neglects checking up on the freshness and you find moldy food, then it's obviously a bad place to eat. Quantity can be a plus, as long as they are all fresh and taken care for in storages. But if quantity is a hassle, it is more important to stress on the "quality" rather than "quantity".

For this post, it was pretty hard thinking about an awful fast food place (let alone most awful) since that is obviously debatable.
But I obviously knew the Best fast food place to eat (in my opinion). I think in the near future, I'll be posting some posts with just one thing (whether good or awful).

So without further ado, here are my picks:

REALLY GOOD: Sonic

What can I say that can thoroughly justify on how amazing Sonic is. Sonic has quantity in it's menu as well as quality on the types of food it sells. Like their signature hot dogs from chili cheese and diced onion to chopped cubes of tomatoes and pickle wedges. The quantity goes on with it's sandwiches. Grilled cheese union ring burger, bacon cheddar burger, along with five other kinds of burgers. The variety doesn't stop there with their drinks from slushies to shakes and their sides such as tater tots, mozzarella sticks, onion rings and other's that I can't think of at the moment.

Unlike other types of fast foods, the burgers are not pre-cooked and then sit under a hot lamp or completely frozen till they loose some flavor before being placed on the griddle. They have fresh packets of meat refrigerated and cooked thoroughly. Yes. it does take some time and you might end up waiting (especially when you have a big order). But trust me, when it comes to the quality of food, patience will be your greatest virtue.

The services I experienced in most Sonics are superb. The people are nice and they recheck the menu completely before they give you your order. In case you have big order, there are specified parking sides so you can wait. Menus are also provided in these parking sides just in case you are planing to have a big order. Even at the parking, someone will take time out of their way to walk up to your car with your order.

Pros: Whoever came up with the creation of the types of sandwiches and hot dogs and the menu itself knows how to please a very hungry pallet. It is clearly a definite source for any person with the case of the munchies (whether you're high or not).

Cons: Unfortunately, Sonic is rare to come by throughout the U.S. There are less Sonics than there are Wendys, Mcdonalds, Burger Kings and Burger Palaces. So if you happen to spot a Sonic on your road trip, take the time and effort to stop by.

Awful: L&L Hawaiian Barbecue

Just to be fair, this isn't the most awful fast food restaurant I can think of. But I certainly know from experience that it is certainly not the greatest. I went to Hawaii and tried actual Hawaiian food and I fell in love with Hawaii ever since. The kind people as well as the food are simply to die for. So when I heard of a Hawaiian fast food restaurant, I was ecstatic only to be greatly disappointed in finding out that even a moderate attitude towards this was an over expectation. I don't know if it is like this in all L&L's restaurants, but most of the waiters and waitresses were kind of bitchy. They also had an expression on their faces and body language that says "I'm tired, I'm not very excited to be here and if you don't hurry up I can brush you off".

I ordered some of the food that I enjoyed at Hawaii, which was smoked pork and a few other things. I have to say I did tried to enjoy it while my stomach, gag reflexes and tongue palate said otherwise. I could smell some of the artificial smoke liquid which gave this pre-cooked and pre-frozen pork a taste that I can only describe as soggy pale meat covered in the type of dust that is gathered by old christmas decorations.... BLAH! I can just remember the taste right now. I do remember that the other stuff I got were not so fabulous either.

Hopefully there will be a real Hawaiian restaurant "on the go" some day. In the mean time I know that L&L is not one of them.

News Broadcasting: What's Truth And What's Toxic

News is a form of communication of specific information that specifically deals with current events either by printed words, internet, television or word of mouth. Thanks to the combination of technology and our human desire to give and seek knowledge from one another, we can now be updated more quickly.

However, since humanity has not yet fully evolved from the primitive desires of the insecure ego, some people would deliberately lie to others for the sake of feeling very important as well as deceiving others into doing things that benefits the agenda of the liars (A.K.A Propaganda).

With that said, in this day in age where B.S is more likely to be spread, it is best to view all perspectives as well as researching their resources of information and come to your best conclusion with rational thinking.

I would encourage you to be independent with your learning and taking your time to learn by yourself. But just to give you a little help on your way to start this, here are a few obvious examples.

Good: Fora TV

Fora TV runs several Medias including their website that gathers collection of news and events. Fora TV is more well known for broadcasting lectures, debates on universities and conferences, which invites the most deep thinking intellectuals of our time. Their site also provides a forum where people can discuss information on public affairs, politics and culture around the entire globe. FORA.tv also teamed up with WIRED creating a channel that features videos about the day's most important technological, science, business, and cultural issues across the world. This was were I was first introduced to politics and social issues, as well as certain issues with religion. That's where I also learned about the most incredible intellectuals such as Christopher Hitchens, Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Noam Chompsky. I now own some of their books. I think this is a very good healthy start on learning facts and Issues more than bias reports that selects minor informations of what's really going on.

It's free to sign up, however I think it might cost to download some of their videos into your computer in order to get them on your iPod.

REALLY AWFUL: Fox News

Wow... Where should I start... Well, for one thing. they have fanatically strong right-winged opinions, which includes the following;

Their "Opinions"
-Gay marriage weakens the US (for some strange reasons).
-Scientists lie about environmental issues.
-Christian doctrines are the proximate source of the (secular) constitution of the US.
-Atheists are immoral and evil.
-Immigrants destroy the fabric of american society.

Even though there's more to the list of their opinions, but I think you might get the point of what kind of people they are.

Another indication of their venomous nature is the different tactics of their cast members. Bill O'Reilly seeks out and finds people who have different views than Fox News and invites them only to be brow beaten into feeling inferior. Bill also uses name calling and certain terms to make their opinions as valid news while excluding specific information. Glen Beck (in my opinion) is the most despicably vile creature of the entire cast. Heres why I come to believe that. He uses fear and non-logic to make people feel insignificant and angry at any non-conservative thought. On one occasion Glen Beck had shown a random but real footage of some college student from some university being beaten to death by some gang mongers. He then looks at the camera with a stern face and basically stated that because we do not mention the christian god more in our schools, dollar bills and in our christmas songs, that college student died as the result of it..... Without knowing of what this student believed in, Fox basically profited his death with snuff videos for enforcing hate against non-conservative non-Fox thought.

I don't want to say anything more about Fox News since I have a hard time keeping the vomit underneath my throat. To those of you who are still having a hard time believing why Fox News deserves to be the most horrible thing on the awful list, You can type in TheYoungTurks.com and these underdog reporters will have plenty of shocking videos for you.

Even though I did stated from a previous post that Youtube is awful and I do not want to be viewed as a hypocrite for suggesting anything from Youtube. But if you are having a hard time finding all of their videos on their actual site and have no other choice, I would then suggest going to Youtube just to look up at The Young Turks while adding either Glen Beck, Fox News or Bill O'Reilly, and see what you find.

I don't need to explain anymore on something already putrid and morally vile.

Online Communities: Trade & Socialization V.S Scams & Blackmail

The growth of the Internet has speed up communications throughout the world. Through this, communities and cities have been developing more faster ways in socializing as well as buying, selling and trading goods faster. However, this technology has developed more hazardous risks of scam artists, crooks, criminals and creeps in the process.

Never the less, the Internet has been a key role in knowing what's out there faster. It has been a vital source of finding the stuff that you need and want with just a click of a mouse.

I'm going to do something a little different. Instead of showing the Good first and then the Awful, I'm going to play a little role reversal. Trust me. You'll thank me that I've saved the best things for last. Also, I've added multiple stuff on both the Good and Awful.

Awful: Ebay

Don't get me wrong, Ebay has helped people in getting some good deals on great items. However, there are reasons why Ebay has been slowly losing the majority's trust. The first problem that is greatly noticed is that Ebay charges a fee simply to list an item, and then it charges a second final value fee if the item actually sells. People who sell on Ebay are now complaining that those fee's have been increasing greatly.

The second problem is Ebay's environment. There is an expression "Give a piece of cheese to one rat out of six and five of those will likely die of hunger. Give a piece of cheese in the middle of an obstacle and it's more likely all six of them will likely die by slit throats". What I mean by this is when you make any form of necessity (major or minor) into a game or a sport to go against someone else with the same needs as you, then it's no longer a social system. It would then be all about a society that only the most aggressive, the most deceiving and the most brutal should survive. In truth, as that may be the case in the animal kingdom, we as evolved Homo-sapiens have prospered by breaking out of this cruel cycle through cooperation and socialization.

The Ebay auctions have turned this market site into a wild fight to the very last second of available bidding. Five times I have been dooped by these people who look at the time just to bid an outrageous price at the very last minute, like vultures watching every last breath of a dying animal. It is hard to buy the things you want to purchase in a low price while being outbid in a cutthroat environment.

The most problematic part of this site is it's sellers. Some sellers are able to buy expensive stuff that everybody wants (like a PS3) only to put it on Ebay at a more expensive price. I find that beyond disgraceful. Even though "legally" they're not doing anything wrong, but "socially" this is a form of extortion.

Awful: Penny Auction Sites

At first when you hear about an auction that bids on pricey items with pennies, you would be jumping and shouting for joy. Right? That's what I did until I found out how most of these sites work. These so called penny sites are corrupt with false advertising. Some of them are sites made by con artist waiting for every drop of information from your name, account to your address. Even actual penny auction sites are not what they seem. When you sign up for an account, you pay a big monthly fee every month for your membership. Just when you think a penny finally means something, you find out yet again the penny doesn't do squat at this day in age.

REALLY AWFUL: Sex Sites

Note: These are fake names. These are just examples of the kinds of sites you would encounter. I made these fake titles on Photoshop (if you were curious).

I can tell you straight up. All of them are scams (one way or another). Even the legitimate sites would care less if your hookup happens to be a scammer as long as they have some cash in their pockets as well. Most of these sites (whether real or not) will promise you a free account, only to say later that you need to sign up for another account that pays a monthly fee with your credit card if you want to "Upgrade". The difference between the real sites and the unreal sites is that the unreal site would turn you into a victim of identity theft when you expose your credit number. This ocean of sites have high risk of sharks if you are planing to take a dive on this any time soon. Another problem with the legitimate sites is that most of the actual members would be searching for only attractive people and are more likely to brush you off (whether you are a woman or a man).

Good: Amazon

Amazon gives prices on new and used items and precisely gives you details of percentage, price and condition of each item. It's less risky in buy and sell auctioning, making for a less cutthroat environment.

REALLY GOOD: Craigslist

Craigslist is a network of online communities, featuring free online classifieds, forums and ads by individuals for other individuals to respond to. There are Craigslist posts in many cities and countries around the world. You can look around in any place or city close, near or in your area. The reason why this deserves a really good on the good list is that not only do you have the chance to give your post/ad to possibly millions of clients and more likely to respond to something that fits your need, but Craigslist has categories for almost every specified need. That's why Craigslist mops the floor with Ebay, Penny Auctions and yes, sex sites.

Financially, the best thing about Craigslist (compare other forms of homemade postings and advertising) is that it’s free. No item fees, no cutthroating, quick buck, easy as pie.

A word of warning though for the casual adult section.
There will be scammers and creeps that will try to dupe you. But the great part to this is that Craigslist gives you information on spotting and reporting them before they get to you. You just have to be street wise to recognize those con artists. Also, Your email remains hidden with an alias email, so the responders will not know your email.

Another problem I would like to point out.
Some rude people will give you hate mail if they hate your particular fetish. But those can be easily spammed once you get them. Another thing to keep in mind is your location. It can be hard to find a responder if the majority in your area doesn't share the same casual needs as you do. Example, If you have a BDSM fetish and your living in Boise Idaho, there's about 1% chance someone would respond. But if you have a Laptop and some transportation like a car or a trailer, more power to you.

Other than that, It's still a crazy world out there. Be smart, be safe, and play it safe.
